Pilot Study Testing The Health Benefits Of CBD For Long-Term Care Patients And The Elderly
Canopy Growth, along with its subsidiary Spectrum Therapeutics, is one of the largest medical and recreational cannabis companies in the US. They are currently studying if medical cannabis is effective as a treatment for those suffering from cognitive issues or pain. The study has 100 senior participants living in long-term care homes across the region. They are working to add another hundred. The study is set to continue in Ontario over the next six months. The aim of the study is to understand how effectively cannabidiol can treat health issues in older people and to determine if there are any side effects.
The company has held a lot of information sessions at many long-term care facilities in Ontario. The reason behind this is that cannabis education has been lacking and not many are aware of how it can help with seniors’ health issues. While it has helped a lot of patients, it does have its exceptions. Some people are responding excellently while others have not shown any response.
Older people often on other medications, and so the interaction between cannabinoid molecules and their existing medicines is a very important thing to consider.
