Former NBA Players Sponsor Event On Cannabis And CBD Education For Athletes, Entertainers, And Influencers
A sponsored event, hosted by Brian Shaw and his wife, was scheduled to educate the participants about the many uses of medical marijuana. The guest list mostly included retired professional athletes, musicians and other influencers. The event included an eight-course meal with desserts, a full bar, some dancing, and massages.
Cannabis has been legal in California since 2018. Al Harrington started using CBD oils and creams to deal with chronic pain after opioids didn’t work out. Initially, many believe that marijuana is a gateway drug, but with more research on the topic, people are gaining awareness. He believes that if the NBA is more lenient on the subject, many players would be able to use CBD products for pain management and injuries. Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes are quite outspoken about their consumption as well and believe it should not be a banned substance.
With growing scientific literature pointing to benefits of pain management, lowering inflammation and reducing anxiety, cannabis’ non-intoxicating compound, cannabidiol (CBD), has been widely used as an alternative to opioids.
Most of them who support the legalization believe that education is the major factor here. Cannabis is slowly becoming more popular in the US, especially for seniors. Hopefully, athletes will soon be allowed to consume it as well. As far as the NBA is concerned, if the players don’t use it in the wrong way, it could be allowed as it does offer several health benefits.
