Sadly The Face Of The Medicinal CBD Movement Dies From Possible COVID-19 Complications
Charlotte Figi who used CBD to treat her epilepsy passed away on Tuesday at the age of 13. Her parents believe that the cause was likely to be related to COVID-19. She faced her first seizure when she was 3 months old when she was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome which is a rare type of epilepsy that occurs in infancy.
By the time she was 5 years old, Charlotte was suffering more than 300 seizures a week at the rate of one every 30 minutes. She was even resuscitated multiple times after her heart stopped. They had tried all available medical options to no avail.
Ms. Figi came across CBD and started administering it to Charlotte. The first time she used it, she didn’t have any seizures for a week. Charlotte even started talking, walking, and no longer needed her feeding tube. Joel Stanley, the hemp cultivator who helped Charlotte, created Charlotte’s Web CBD in 2011.
In 2018, the Food and Drug Administration approved a cannabidiol medication, Epidiolex, to treat the seizures caused by Dravet syndrome. It was the first drug to be approved by the F.D.A. for the condition.
Thanks to the help of CBD, Charlotte lived a happy life for nine years.
