While Most Farmers Struggle In This Economic Turmoil, Hemp Farmers And The CBD Industry Remain Largely Unaffected.
Agriculture officials didn’t come up with a way until farmers started throwing their crops out. While the USDA had already announced a $3 billion commodity purchase program, it could take a while before it kicks into action. Farmers started throwing out their crops since they couldn’t sell it anywhere. Sadly, demand at the food banks shot up as more and more people became unemployed. The fact that farmers were throwing away food when people were starving made it all the more appalling. The commodity purchase program announced by USDA will come into place to buy it from the farmers and transport it to various food programs.
While the massive change in food consumption habits has scrambled most corners of agriculture, the burgeoning hemp industry already sold a much larger portion of its products through retail outlets than restaurants.
With the coronavirus pandemic lockdown in place, more users are purchasing CBD products to remain calm. However, for struggling farmers, they can only access federal stimulus programs if they can prove that their prices have gone down by 5% since the beginning of the year, which is a very difficult thing to prove due to the harvest schedule among other things. Coming to the working situation for meatpackers, they are still continuing to work in crowded factories even as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration established new guidelines. Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts stated that he will not shut down the processing plants as it could potentially create civil unrest and lack of meat.
