Harvard University And MIT Alumnus Provides Largest Grant Ever Towards Cannabis Research
Charles R. Broderick, a Harvard University and MIT alumnus, recently provided funding to extend the research being done by Staci Gruber, a McLean Hospital researcher. She is working on understanding the different kinds of cannabis-based products.
The funding will support investigations into a range of issues related to cannabis, including its effects on the human brain, its use in treating medical and psychiatric conditions, and how it might be regulated.
This research will be helpful in guiding clinicians, users, and regulators in making a selection. Additionally, it will also allow everyone concerned to understand the effectiveness of the CBD products and any risks associated with it.
Gruber is the director of the Marijuana Investigations for Neuroscientific Discovery (MIND) program and is planning to use the funding to classify differences between a whole-plant, full-spectrum cannabis product and a single extracted compound product. This is an important research since the popularity of CBD is on an all-time high and the market is flooded with both categories of products.
Research plans to compare a whole-plant, full-spectrum product vs. another product containing only cannabidiol. The results of this project will also help in developing better laws and increase the adoption of CBD-products along with changing perceptions about it.
