FDA Spokesperson Cites Works Towards Regulations For The Marketing Of CBD As Dietary Supplements
The FDA submitted draft guidance regarding marijuana and CBD research to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) which the latter is reviewing right now. …the agency’s work to develop broader CBD regulations that could eventually allow for the marketing of cannabis products as dietary supplements or food items.
We do not know if the FDA is going to wait until the research and final guidelines are ready or if they are going to start issuing the rules around CBD products. The FDA announced early this year that they plan to publish guidance on cannabis research this year, but there is no clarity on how long the OMB review may take. Besides sending the document to the White House for review, the FDA is also seeking input from the public on the effectiveness and safety of CBD. While these things are in the works, the FDA continues to crack down on companies that are making unofficial claims.
