The researchers assessed the potential therapeutic effects of cannabidiol (CBD) for arthritic pain in dogs because their condition closely mimics the characteristics of human arthritis.
CBD is gaining popularity thanks to the variety of benefits it offers, ranging from reducing anxiety to helping with movement disorders. The research team started with understanding the impacts of CBD on immune responses linked with arthritis. The team found that with CBD treatment the production of both inflammatory molecules and immune cells linked to arthritis were reduced. In a randomized placebo-controlled study, canines receiving CBD treatment showed an improvement and faced less pain.
