Research Study To Look Into Liver Safety From CBD Is Embraced By Consumers, Retailers, And The FDA
ValidCare is a Colorado-based firm that manages clinical and market intelligence research for the hemp and the full healthcare industry. They worked with the FDA to come up with a protocol for a study involving the CBD’s effects on humans by gathering liver safety data. ValidCare has received support from seven CBD brands that are interested in funding the study. Each company has already given over $100,000 towards the study and asks their consumers to engage in the study. For companies that want to join in, the deadline is next week. This CBD liver-toxicity study was initially planned to start in March 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed things. Now, the idea is to gather data from about 1,000 users from July to September.
The study is unique. That’s because it is not an investigational new drug (IND) or new dietary ingredient (NDI) study; instead it is completely observational, designed to understand the effects of daily consumption of hemp-derived CBD on liver function in healthy adult populations.
The consumers will use the products given by the study organizers. They will attest to their usage and journal the impact they feel. It is also part of the requirement to provide a blood sample for liver-function tests. Since the FDA is not very interested in research from individual brands, this combined effort can go a long way in convincing the authorities.
