Treatment Of Chronic Pain And Ineffectiveness Of Pharmaceuticals Is A Big Reason Nurse Prescribes Cannabis
Eloise Theisen is the President of the American Nurses Cannabis Association and specializes in cannabis therapy. In the Ministry of Hemp podcast, Matt Baum, the host, talks to Theisen to understand more about the industry. Theisen is an adult geriatric nurse practitioner and uses cannabis to treat her patients. Through personal experience, she learnt that cannabis is useful in helping one deal with chronic pain and current pharmaceuticals are not really very effective. She feels one of the reasons a lot of patients got into cannabis is because they were given too much opioids and they wished to go after a better alternative. Since cannabis and our own endocannabinoid system (ECS) is quite a complex system, the treatment plan needs to be very personalized.
Theisen believes to move forward successfully, we will need to start thinking of cannabis as medicine instead of drugs. With all the rioting and robberies going on, safe banking needs to become a priority so that thousands of dollars don’t get stolen. Unfortunately, the city councils and the state use this to point out that cannabis is a dangerous business instead of doing the needful. Coming to Theisen’s work, she mainly works with female patients who are usually in their mid-70s. She believes that the first step in the treatment would be to get rid of preconceived notions about cannabis and offer some fundamental education before prescribing a treatment. In addition to the clients or patients, doctors and nurses also need training about cannabis to understand it better and the benefits it can offer.
I think sometimes, people see it as sort of a hippy dippy medicine. They don’t take it seriously.
