Researchers Surprised By The Significant Improvements In Dogs With Osteoarthritis In CBD Study
A recent study found that CBD could help dogs suffering from canine osteoarthritis. This inflammatory condition leads to stiffness, pain, and loss of mobility. Dogs will become irritable, unwilling to play, run or jump, and lethargic. Sadly, it affects at least 20% of all dogs older than 1 year old. The research was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study lasting for four weeks. Each dog received either a placebo or one of the three different CBD products. After a month, the placebo group and the low CBD group did not show any improvement, but the group of dogs that were given higher doses of the CBD product seemed livelier. Even the organizers were surprised to see the effects of CBD in just a month. The dogs were happier and found it easier to move about. The groups taking the higher doses were still experiencing the benefits even two weeks after stopping the dosage.
The study examined both traditional CBD and CBD in a liposomal formulation. The latter helps make CBD easier to absorb. Liposomes are absorbed easily into the bloodstream, allowing dogs to feel the positive effects faster. Since the study did not test the blood’s CBD levels after the dogs ingested them, some experts disagree with the outcome. Older dogs also find CBD beneficial as it allows them to get rid of their pain and enjoy a better quality of life.
Gastrointestinal problems like diarrhea or vomiting also occasionally occur for some dogs, but Richter and Cital say it is unclear if this is related to the CBD or the oils and other compounds in CBD products.
