Cannabis May Be Legal On State Land, But Not On Disney Land
Walt Disney World reopens after a four-month closure due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the Magic Kingdom and all Disney parks still remain closed to those visitors who are using medical marijuana or CBD products to treat cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and other conditions. The reason behind this is that medical cannabis and CBD therapeutics are considered to be prohibited substances on Disney properties.
What is interesting to note here is that other kind of medical drugs are allowed freely. There is no restriction on the sale of alcohol either. While patients using CBD can enter the park, they shouldn’t have their medicine on them. This keeps away many from visiting the park. It is more likely that the security guards will take them to a holding cell on the premises while the police are called. Since the consumption of marijuana in a public place is an offense, there is a chance that one could be charged with that.
That doesn’t merely contradict the optimistic, inclusive future the company’s founder envisioned in Tomorrowland. It’s an ableist attack on the positive values Walt Disney worked so hard to instill in all of his creations.
