Five Year Study By Scientists Reveals CBD Mitigates Addictive Behaviors Such As Cocaine Use
A new study shows that marijuana could potentially be effectively used to treat cocaine addiction.
Scientists analyzed 14 studies from the past five years on the administration of CBD in animal subjects consuming cocaine, and determined that the non-intoxicating ingredient appears to have a multitude of effects that mitigate addictive behaviors.
While all the studies did not always produce consistent results, it is proved that marijuana could potentially be helpful in this. While animal trials have given a great bit of insight, we would be able to establish the use better with human trials. In a 2018 study, a 20 mg/kg daily dose of cannabidiol to mice saw a huge difference in the cocaine consumption within 10 days. They also displayed less anxiety. The study concluded that the clinical administration of CBD could lead to reduced self-administration of cocaine.
Other discoveries from the study include the fact that contextual memory linked with cocaine was decreased, anxiety surrounding the use of cocaine has lowered, and seizures related to cocaine consumption were lowered when treated with CBD. Due to this, it looks as if CBD could be an excellent option in helping those with cocaine consumption issues. With the 2018 Farm Bill, CBD has received a lot of interest and studies like this will help promote its use.
