Is CBD A Better Solution For Cytokine Storms Caused By Covid-19 Inflammation?
In the more severe cases of Covid-19, cytokine storms are a major cause of worry for doctors. This leads to organ failure, pain, swelling, and excessive inflammation. With the immune system attacking the body’s own cells instead of the virus, this could potentially lead to death. Researchers believe that CBD could help fight the cytokine storms. A study also found that terpenes could offer even better results than CBD alone.
Reports from the study show that a combination of CBD with terpenes was 2 times more effective at inhibiting cytokine activity than dexamethasone, a corticosteroid which a recent study found to be an effective treatment for Covid-19 cytokine storms.
Two Israeli research and development companies are working on a terpene study, focusing on proprietary terpene formulation called NT-VRL™, to see if its anti-inflammatory could help fight the cytokine storms. The fact that this formulation contains 30 different ingredients makes it different from our regular medicines which usually have only one active ingredient. In addition to the NT-VRL™ terpene formulation, the team has also tested CBD, Dexamethasone, and CBD with NT-VRL™ using the “Cytokine Storm Assay”. The terpenes alone was found to prevent the cytokine activity around 80% whereas CBD alone option could only inhibited around 75% of the cytokines. The combination of CBD and NT-VRL™ terpene formulation inhibited around 90% of the cytokines, which is by far the best option. With more research and validation, this could potentially be a treatment for Covid-19.
