Montana, Nebraska, And Mississippi Among States Determined To Put Cannabis Legalization Initiative On The Ballot This November
Two separate cannabis initiatives have qualified for the general election ballot in Montana, making it the sixth state in the nation that will be voting on a legalization measure in November.
The supporters had gathered enough signatures to qualify for the ballot. Initiative 190 is for legalizing the possession and sale of limited amounts of marijuana while the Constitutional Initiative 118 would let the state legislature to set the legal age at 21 for all cannabis-related purchases. As of now, the age limit is set at 18.
For both the initiatives, over 130,000 signatures were collected, well over the threshold. Initiative 190 required approximately 25,000 verified signatures to qualify while the Constitutional Initiative 118 needed about 50,000 signatures. New Approach Montana invested about $2 million to gather these. Pepper Petersen, a campaign spokesperson for New Approach Montana, mentioned that this was great news since it would create more jobs, increase revenue, and make life easier. In addition to the Montana, other states are planning to vote on cannabis legalization ballot as well. Nebraska and Mississippi measures include legalizing medical marijuana.
