Can CBD Help Stressed Elephants In A Warsaw Zoo?
Two stressed African elephants are to be given medical cannabidiol — CBD — to help them relax and stop fighting at a zoo in Poland.
Warsaw Zoo recently mentioned on their website that they are conducting an experiment to see if giving their African elephants CBD hemp oil would improve their moods. One of the elephants, Fredzia, was a bit stressed out after the death of Erna, who was the former head of the elephant herd. The fellow female herd member Buba and Fredzia would both be administered hemp oil without psychoactive properties.
Patryk Pyciński, Warsaw Zoo zookeeper, explained in a video posted on Facebook that elephants can struggle with the loss of a herd member for a long term, even several years. These social creatures need kindness to allow them to adjust again and CBD is an excellent way of achieving that. Since CBD has already been used successfully on other animals like horses and dogs, Warsaw Zoo was hoping that it would help their elephants as well. While it could be a while before the results were visible, it is a good place to start.
