The US Navy mentioned that it didn’t want its Sailors and Marines using CBD or hemp products. Now, less than a year later, their ban includes topical products like lotions and shampoos. The authorities say that these new rules were created to protect the ranks from potential THC exposure which could negatively affect mission readiness of the person. The Navy said that at this point where there are no rules around manufacturing standards and labels cannot be believed, it is difficult for them to allow its use. Department of Defense officials say that it is not really practical or even reasonable for them to test every hemp-based product out there that would give a positive urinalysis result.
Even though CBD is derived from marijuana, it’s simpler for companies to use hemp-derived CBD because the extract is legal in all states. But even though it’s legal, it’s unregulated, which mean it’s important to question health claims that may appear on labels.
Research tells us that CBD could help with anxiety, sleep issues, drug addiction, and more. Sailors and Marines having a valid medical FDA-approved prescription for CBD products are allowed to use them. There is no restriction with regards to the use of durable hemp products like clothes and rope.
