While there is no denying that 2020 was a hard year, it was more so for those battling mental health issues. Here are some ways to improve your mental health this year. Taking care of yourself by finding a creative outlet, keeping a journal and pouring out your feelings, and keeping a gratitude list to remind of yourself that every hurdle has a silver lining will all help in leaving some troubles behind. Let your friends know that you are grateful for their friendship and support, find your support group with people who can relate to what you are going through right now, communicate without barriers with your family, and most importantly, stay away from toxic people.
Other things that could help are exercise, go to the gym, do meditation, and practice breathing techniques. It is definitely better than staying in bed all day long and is sure to make you feel a bit better. If you want, book a therapy appointment with someone you trust or are comfortable with. If you think it will help, go for prescription medication as well. Drink more water, get more sleep, get some sunshine, and play with your or your friend’s pets. Keep a positive attitude towards others and yourself, volunteer for charities, let go of any hurts and focus on the future.
