One Of The Leaders In Cannabis Acceptance In Sports, UFC Is No Longer Banning Fighters From Using THC

UFC senior vice president of athlete health and performance, Jeff Novitzky, mentioned that the league officials wanted to stop athletes from competing while under the influence of cannabis. Since THC is fat-soluble, it is stored in fatty tissues and organs in the body and eventually gets back into the circulation. This means urine analysis can show traces of it long after the actual consumption.
UFC athletes will still have to follow the marijuana rules under the different Athletic Commission regulations, but since the focus is now on athletes not consuming marijuana on the day of the fight instead of any time in the previous weeks, Novitzky hopes to bring some changes in discussions on the subject. This move also removes CBD and other naturally-occurring cannabinoids from the anti-doping list. The UFC, in fact, partners with Aurora Cannabis to study just how efficient CBD is for pain management, inflammation, and recovery from injury.
