The liver metabolizes cannabinoids and other compounds, and it also accumulates toxins and other substances to be excreted as human waste. The good news is that new clinical research suggests that CBD does not lead to liver problems.
Another compound in cannabis, the psychotropic THC, is already known to be harmless to the liver, although the human liver can metabolize -9-THC into Hydroxy-11-∆-9-THC, which is significantly more potent than THC itself.
Validcare, which conducts patient-centered clinical trials, has shared initial findings with the FDA. As the FDA works on its guidance document for the CBD industry and hemp-derived CBD products, science-based data comes in useful for the authority to make informed decisions. Over 830 consumers from among customers selected from 12 CBD companies completed this study which is more than the 681 participants that were required to achieve the desired statistical significance. About 70% of study participants had pre-existing issues and had been taking medications for it. The consumption of CBD did not see any adverse effects even in such cases.
