Is CBD The Answer For Anxious Pets?
We know that CBD can do wonders for our dogs, especially those who tend to become anxious. This has led to a huge market for CBD pet supplies. A lot of high-profile celebrities have started endorsing CBD for pets as well. The 2018 Farm Bill paved the way for a CBD revolution. CBD is one of the compounds found in both hemp and marijuana, but unlike THC – which is the psychoactive component of cannabis – CBD doesn’t get one high and can be extremely beneficial for both humans and pets for a wide range of health issues.
The fact that there is little information out there around ingredient sourcing, type of CBD, its effects, and extraction details makes it hard to do your research. Thankfully, there are now many companies popping up that create authenticated, ethically sourced CBD for pets that usually come with a certification and all the data one needs to make an informed decision. The products in the market that are catered for humans are being adapted for dogs and other pets. There are now CBD dog biscuits, chocolate, oil, and more.
Unfortunately, we need a lot more research and studies into both human and animal consumption of CBD and better regulation.
“Basically, all the research says is that there needs to be more true, double-blind-type studies,” he continues. “Even most of those, with animals, are anecdotal. You can’t ask the pet how they’re feeling. We really need more objective studies.”
The lack of proper laws and regulations makes it extremely frustrating as vets are unable to freely recommend CBD as an option.
