Cannabis Self Care For ADHD. Why Is It Such A Misunderstood Option In The Medical Fields?
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurological condition that is characterized by inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity, usually seen in childhood. ADHD is divided into three subtypes: primarily hyperactive-impulsive type, primarily inattentive type, and primarily combined type. CBD seems to be an effective way of managing ADHD symptoms, but many ends up with cannabis use disorder (CUD) since there is little to no research on how cannabis affects younger people and its long-term effects.
ADHD can cause a lot of disruptions to regular life and make it harder to keep a job and have stable relationships. Depending on the age of the patient and the severity of the condition, ADHD could be treated by behavioral therapy and/or pharmaceutical drugs. Dopamine is associated with the body’s reward system and is usually triggered when we experience something pleasurable, such as food, shopping, a ‘like’ on social media, or recreational drugs. If this doesn’t work well, it could lead to issues like ADHD. One way of handling this would be to prescribe medicines that would trigger dopamine production.
Given what’s known about the modulating effect of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) on most classes of neurotransmitters, it’s no surprise researchers are investigating the possibility of a relationship between the ADHD-related suboptimal production of dopamine and a dysfunctional ECS.
Cannabis use can allow those with ADHD to calm down and relax, especially when they feel overwhelmed. Research has found that consumption of CBD by ADHD patients does not make any difference to how successfully they inhibit inappropriate responses. To start using cannabis as a mainstream treatment option, we need robust clinical evidence which is missing. Besides ADHD, cannabis is known to help with other issues as well.
