CBD for pets has always been a very popular market, but during the pandemic and post its peak, sales are still rocketing up. With more and more people planning to return to the offices this year, pet owners across the country are looking for options to help their pets manage the separation and the accompanying anxiety. A cannabis market research company found that the number of consumers discussing CBD brands with their veterinarians more than doubled from 2020 to 2021. A Denver-based company that sells pet CBD products has seen a growth rate of nearly 500% over the past three years.
It helps that high-profile names endorse CBD products for their personal use or their pets.
Some studies have shown CBD can lower arthritis pain and limit seizures in animals. Advocates also say the compound can ease anxiety and other ailments.
A major obstacle continues to be the fact that there are little to no peer-reviewed studies on how CBD affects animals. The ones that are there usually have been based on limited sample size. The FDA holding back on officially accepting the products also has an impact on many vets not being able to suggest CBD for treatment.
